Phillips County Hospital has a full-time career opportunity for a Medical Lab Department Manager. A qualifying candidate must have: MT or MLT (ASCP) or AMT Work Monday – Friday and rotating call weekends Work well independently and as a team Ability to use and learn computer software General computer skills required Good Communication skills Career Summary: Provides laboratory services to meet the needs of patients, performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices.  Directs, supervises and coordinates functions and activities in any or all divisions of the laboratory. Job Duties: Provide leadership and oversight for all laboratory operations, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient services. Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff through recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, competency assessments, performance evaluations, coaching, recognition, and corrective action. Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and accrediting agency requirements, including laboratory policies, procedures, records, and documentation. Lead departmental Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and serve as the organization's QA/QI Program leader. Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets, operating expenses, capital equipment planning, and financial performance. Ensure accurate and timely laboratory testing, specimen processing, quality control, and reporting of patient results. Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, administration, pathologists, and external partners to support quality patient care and operational excellence. Evaluate, implement, and oversee new laboratory technologies, testing methods, equipment, and staff training programs. Manage laboratory supplies, equipment purchasing, service agreements, vendor relationships, and inventory needs. Oversee laboratory information systems (LIS), including test maintenance, pricing updates, CPT coding, and system optimization. Review patient charges, invoices, outreach billing, and departmental expenditures for accuracy and fiscal responsibility. Monitor blood transfusion practices and laboratory procedures to ensure policy compliance and patient safety. Maintain departmental emergency preparedness plans and environmental sampling programs as needed. Conduct annual equipment assessments and develop long-term replacement and capital planning strategies.
